There were no signs of foul play, and many of the
missing female's personal items were located within the vehicle, undisturbed.
The area adjacent to the location of the van was
typical "Texas hill country" comprised of dry rocky terrain, scrub oak, and
prickly pear foliage. Daytime temperatures preceding the discovery of the van
had been in the 100's.

A ground search was launched immediately
following the discovery of the van. Members of the Texas DPS, the Hays County
Sheriff's Department, and local fire departments deployed personnel, cadaver
dogs, and helicopters, but their search was unsuccessful.
After several days, detectives working the case
requested aerial photographs be obtained around the area of the van. RPFS
personnel arrived and deployed their equipment, obtaining over 500 digital
images of several hundred acres in two hours time, flying four sorties. These
images were reviewed by everyone involved, but the missing woman was not
located.
